Leading Cause of Death for Teens

Young drivers, ages 15- to 20-years old, are especially vulnerable to death and injury on our roadways – traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers in America. Mile for mile, teenagers are involved in three times as many fatal crashes as all other drivers.

  • Drinking and driving

Top Three Oddest Driving Laws in Texas:

Odd Texas Driving Law #1:
When a driver is cited with a DUI, he or she, as well as the rest of his car, loses their license.
And let the heated conversation begin. I can just sense your perplexed facial expressions while reading that law. But it’s simple. Lesson of the Day: Don’t drive drunk. Not only will you lose your license, but your car will too!

Odd Texas Driving Law #2:
It is illegal to drive without windshield wipers; however, you are allowed not to have a windshield. Well I hope those are some very fast wipers! I’m saying superhero-blocks-all-bugs-while-going-down-the-highway fast.

Odd Texas Driving Law #3:
In Galveston, Texas it is illegal to drive your car down Broadway before noon on Sundays.

Ready For Summer Vacations?

Here are a few helpful tips that will make your travels as safe as any other vacation:

  1. Don’t text and drive. In fact, you should never be texting and driving at the same time– but during vacation time is even more dangerous.
  2. Children under the age of 12 should be in the back seat at all times.
  3. Allow yourself plenty of travel time to avoid headaches and the urge to speed.
  4. Drive defensively–especially in bad weather.
  5. Avoid driving drowsy.
  6. Always have a designated driver.
  7. Friday is usually the busiest getaway day, and the afternoon rush hour period usually starts as early as 1 p.m.  Traffic congestion normally peaks between one to two hours earlier than usual.
  8. Avoid delays by leaving before noon or after 6 p.m. on Friday evening to avoid traffic nightmares.
  9. Monday afternoon is usually the busiest return day.  The busiest time to be on the roads normally is between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
